Under the direction of Intrawest, Copper has heavily upgraded its snowboarding facilities in recent seasons. It designated new terrain for an expanded snowboard park for the 97-98 season, adding in a new rider-designed and maintained half pipe including a gathering yurt with music, vending machines and waxing and tool stations. By the 1998 - 99 season, facilities included a competition halfpipe on lower Carefree - one of the first in North America to open, thanks to recent spending on snowmaking. World-renowned snowboarders Brian and Kevin Delaney also stage their Delaney Adult Snowboard Camps to Copper Mountain. Formerly offered at Vail, Beaver Creek and Aspen resorts, Copper is currently the exclusive home of the Delaney camps. Three-day "Classic Camps" and one-day "Power Play" camps are staged. The whole Copper effort in snowboarding is driven on, in part at least, by the Copper Team. Pro-riders Chad Otterstrom, Kendall Whelpton and Matt Peterson ride for Copper. Structured around these up-and-coming riders, the Team contributes to developing Copper's snowboarding mission in all aspects. Major snowboarding events are the focus of Copper's special events calendar. The Swatch World Cup Boarder-X and Copper's "Skate & Ride" events have been staged here over recent seasons. Each year Copper also hosts its annual Snowboard Series - the longest-running snowboard race series in North America. Beginners can practice themselves for free mid-week and low season by making use of Copper's 'K&L Program' giving free access to chairs K & L. Copper even had its own limited-edition snowboard manufactured for it by Unity.
