Iso-Syöte is located approximately 150 kilometres (93 miles) south of the Arctic Circle, is Finland's southernmost fell region. The forested landscape that surround the ski slopes is blessed with Finland's highest natural snowfall receiving on average more than three metres (ten feet) of snow annually.[more] Average snow depth by April is 62cm, with 17 hours of daylight in which to enjoy it. The ski runs on Isö-Syöte, are divided in to two separate areas. These were separate resorts until officially merging in 1994 to make one of Finland's biggest, as well as most southerly, ski centres. There is no real resort but log cabins are a popular and cosy form of local accommodation and there are several good hotels. As with all the ski areas in Lapland, downhill skiing is just a part of a whole range of winter adventure sports and activities.
