Sierra has around 50 trails spread across Huckleberry Mountain and West Bowl, they divide up about a quarter easy, a quarter difficult and a half intermediate. High speed quads cut deep in to all corners of the terrain so its easy and efficient to get around. There are spectacular views northward to the Tahoe lake from the top of the lifts and after breathing that in, advanced skiers can descend the explosively exciting Dynamite trail. Preacher's Passion, which descends on the other side of the Sensation Quad, is equally worthwhile. For something a little longer there's the 4km (two and a quarter mile) long Academy trail. Sierra also offers "Learn To Fly" lessons courtesy of US National Freestyle Mogul Skiing Champion Travis Ramos. He leads special clinics giving you the opportunity to learn to fly in the park, over any terrain, and out of the halfpipe. The resort participates in the multi resort international Ski Lake Tahoe ticket available through some UK tour operators before you leave. Sierra operates five magical "Backcountry Gates" passing through which takes you from the world of conventional skiing and in to a land containing some of the best tree skiing in Tahoe and the biggest steeps Sierra has to offer, all within the gorgeous solitude of the Sierra Nevada. Backcountry tours are available for only $25 (About £15) and include three and a half hours of emergency training and breath-taking, thigh-burning jaunts through the best of the hidden Sierra. All guides are professional patrollers and are Level 1 avalanche certified. Group sizes are minimum two, maximum six people, all of whom must be advanced or expert level (You'll be tested on that before you're allowed through the gate).
