We spent 4 days in Avoriaz. Arriving at midday we did discover that there is NOWHERE in the entire resort to leave your luggage. After a wasted walk, we managed to sweet talk a barman who let us stash our stuff in his back room. Bingo! We were on the slopes enjoying the blue sky by 1pm. A few hours of gentle skiing later we skied back to our apartment in the Falaise District at the top of the resort.
We woke up on the second day to a complete whiteout. Visibility was terrible, but we headed up the mountain regardless. Some slopes were pretty scary as you could barely make out the piste markers. It did clear towards the end of the day, and another great day skiing.
Third day was probably the best days skiing I had ever had. The snow had topped up the pistes, and we headed over the Mossettes lift to the Swiss side. Some awesome skiing around Les Crosets and lunch on the peak of a mountain was a nice touch. A few more runs after lunch and we were done.
On our last night we headed to a bar called The Place. Avoriaz wasn't the most amazing apres-ski, not a patch on Austria but we had some good nights.
As we had to be out of our apartment by midday we did manage a few more hours on the slopes, again under blue skies.
I would thoroughly recommend as a base for some excellent skiing, the ski in-ski out was great. Avoriaz itself was nice enough, nice not having any roads but the night life was a little tame. |
